Fires gut two markets in Salima

Two fires have razed down shops at two markets in the lakeshore district of Salima.

Reports that Malawi24 has gathered indicate that fires have burnt parts of Msangu and Central markets in Salima.

The incidents happened on Monday and witnesses say the fires started at around 3pm at both markets. 

According to the reports, at Msangu market one carpentry shop has been destroyed while seven shops have been burnt at Central market.

Destroyed items at Msangu market include timber while at Central market items that have been lost in the fire include baobab fruits, potatoes, bananas and restaurant items.

The causes of the fires are yet to be established, as is the cost of the items that have been destroyed due to the fires.
