Malawi Police officers in Kasungu have arrested a health surveillance assistance who works at Chamama health centre in the district for stealing medical drugs.

The arrest of the suspect, Aubrey Phiri aged 23, came days after the police arrested four people who were found selling hospital drugs.

Public relations officer for the station Edna Mzingwitsa said Phiri was stealing the medical drugs from the health centre and selling them to the four suspects.

“In the course of inquiring into the case, it was found that it was Phiri who was stealing and selling medical drugs to the suspects,” she said.

ArrestedThe four suspects whom the security providers arrested were identified as Thomas Manda aged 38, Arnold Magoya aged 23, 48 year-old Misheck Chiphoya and Zebedeyo Chipheya aged 48.

Among other drugs which the police seized during the arrest of the four were Diclofenic, Quinine, Bufen, Iodine, Indocin and fragile.

Meanwhile, Phiri who comes from Visambo village Traditional Authority Kalumo in Ntchisi district is expected to appear before court soon.
