The historic occasion was unique as identified by new experiences with a few bizarre moments worth a tale to tell among the crowd that gathered for the encounter at Kamuzu Stadium including those who were following the proceedings on television.

Ever seen a referee substituted? What about a player wearing a jersey with three digits? Well it happened on Saturday in Malawi probably for the first time.

The second half of the Carlsberg Cup final was packed with drama as the officiating personnel Dennis Ngulube paved way for Azizi Nyirenda on health grounds. Action was put to a sudden halt, seven minutes into the second half after Ngulube experienced a heart problem.

Later in the last half, veteran midfielder Joseph Kamwendo was introduced on the field of play to replace Jafali Chande. Just like any nomad, Kamwendo was in white and orange colours but with number 190 on his back.

As many supporters and some football experts say, it was their first to see a referee getting substituted and a player wearing a kit with a three digit number.
