Mutharika mourns Mzuzu accident victims

The Malawi leader Peter Mutharika has mourned 15 Malawians who lost lives in the accident that occurred near Ekwendeni Trading Centre in Mzuzu last week Friday.

Mutharika has described the accident as “one of the worst national tragedies in our recent past” as it has killed over a dozen people and injured many.

In a statement made available to Malawi24, Mutharika has ordered that government is to provide coffins and transport for the dead bodies to be taken to their respective areas.

“President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and the First Lady Dr. Gertrude Mutharika have learnt with shock and sadness the death of 15 people who died in a road accident at Msiki area in Mzuzu on Friday,” reads part of the statement.

He further wished quick recovery to those people who sustained injuries during the accident.

The victims included children from Chiputula CCAP School who were travelling in a lorry and were going to Karonga for a church event.

  1. The children were CCAP Sunday school choir members and they were travelling in a minibus. Please get facts tight before you pen your stories.
