Mutharika hails Malawi-India relationships

President Peter Mutharika has commended the strong relationship that the country has with India saying the Asian country provides Malawi with trade opportunities.

Mutharika made the remarks on Tuesday when he received letters of credence from Suresh Kumar, the new Indian High Commissioner to Malawi.

During the meeting Mutharika deliberated with Kumar on several issues of common interest between Malawi and India.

The Malawi leader said that India remains one of Malawi’s strategic partners at a time the country leverages its opportunities following the emergence of BRICS bloc.

“Being one of BRICS major players, India offers well-balanced trade opportunities for our economy as evidenced from previous interventions in agricultural irrigation, manufacturing and services,” said Mutharika.

He added that it is his hope that the strengthening of diplomatic relations between Malawi and India will yield positive results both in the short and long term for the betterment of the two countries.

Speaking at the same function Kumar revealed that India is committed to help Malawi in Agro-Industry and Information Technology.

Said Kumar: “India is pleased to be on bilateral relationship with Malawi, it is the hope of India that this relationship should continue benefiting both people from India and Malawi.”
