Marijuana lands three Malawians in the cooler

Malawi Police officers in Mangochi district are keeping in custody three men for being found in possession of Cannabis Sativa locally known as Chamba.

Deputy Public Relations Officer of Mangochi Police Station Amina Daudi has identified the three as Madalitso Sozera, 28, Joseph Bileya, 34, and Anafi Selemani, 28. The suspects were found with a total of 35Kgs of the drug.

marijuanaDaudi said police detectives were tipped that the three were selling the illicit drug at Saiti Kadzuwa village in the district.

“Police went to the place and upon searching in the house Madalitso Sozera and Joseph Bileya who both live together, they found 30Kgs of cannabis sativa,” said Daudi.

The police later found Selemani with 5Kgs hidden in a plastic bag.

The illicit drug was siezed and the three will appear in court to answer the charge of being found in possession of Chamba which is contrary to section 6 as read with section 19 of Dangerous Drugs Act.

Bileya hails from Malinga village Traditional Authority Mwambo in Zomba district.  Sozera hails from Chilonga village Traditional Authority Nankumba while Selemani hails from Chomba village Traditional Authority Mponda, both from Mangochi district.

Meanwhile, the Police are urging the general public in the district to continue tipping them about criminal activities.
