St Luke’s College of Nursing and Midwifery has finally reopened having forcedly closed its doors early July, Malawi24 can confirm.

Classes resumed on Monday after students returned from a two month holiday on a short notice. They were informed through text messages and other platforms on Friday to go back to school.

The mission institution prematurely widened its exit doors on health grounds as typhoid fever outbreak affected the school and some parts of Zomba city thereby putting lives at risk.

In the process of celebrating the return, cries for the two months lost overshadowed the jovial mood.

In an interview with Malawi24, a second year student who opted for anonymity lamented over the time lost while waiting for the situation to normalise. He said the break will affect their calendar.

“The break will surely have a negative effect on our school calendar, we are talking of two solid months, you can only imagine the content we could have covered.” he said

St Luke’s College of Nursing is under the Anglican Church and it handsomely contributes human resources to Malawi’s health sector.
