His one month contract deal as a caretaker coach ended yesterday during Malawi’s 1-nil victory over Swaziland in the final 2017 AFCON qualifier at Kamuzu Stadium but he is now on poll position to land the job permanently.

Nsazurwimo Ramadhan’s first game in charge saw his side recording their first victory in the qualification phase to finish with five points from 6 games but failed to make it to Gabon following Flames’ poor start to the campaign.

And speaking to the media after yesterday’s victory, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) General Secretary Suzgo Nyirenda said the result gives Ramadhan an upper hand in the race to take over as the Flames head coach.

“First of all, let me congratulate the entire Technical Panel for giving us a win in more than five AFCON games. This victory was a must for us considering the fact that we were winless.”

“FAM’ sub technical will be meeting in the coming weeks to make a decision on who will take over as Flames head coach but Ramadhan has an upper hand over every applicant because he has delivered and who knows, he might get the job on a permanent basis but that will depend on the recommendations from the sub technical committee,” said Nyirenda who was on cloud nine following the victory.

Ramadhan, who was deputizing Ernest Mtawali before replacing him, made it clear that its always a dream to coach a national team.

“Of course, I mean who wouldn’t love to become a national team coach? I will be happy if I take this job permanently if FAM gives me that opportunity but for now, let me focus on how to beat Swaziland next month,” Ramadhan told reporters soon after being named Flames caretaker coach last month.

If he is given the job, the Burundian will likely maintain Patrick Mabedi and Decklerk Msakakuona as his deputies while Clement Kafwafwa and Swadick Sanudi will be his team manager and goalkeepers trainer respectively.

  2. we cant base our decision on that Game it was just a friendly Match…flames has
a problem when comes to competition. even under Mtawali we would have won the game if we mamanged a draw at their home yard its obvious that come to kamuzu stadium the results would be positive
