Nkhunga Police Officers have arrested a second suspect in a case in which an 18 year-old man was severely assaulted and his private parts were chopped off in Nkhotakota district.
Nkhunga Police Public Relations Officer Laban Makalani has identified the suspect as Norman Mandix, 23.
“He was apprehended at Nkunguni village in Mzimba district after escaping Nkhotakota following a serious manhunt by police,” said Makalani.
The suspect, together with another assailant Rangerson Mashikudu, was part of a group of criminals who attacked the teenager earlier this week.
The teenager, who is a bicycle taxi operator, was found lying in deep agony at a nearby bush and was rushed to hospital where medical personnel failed to fix the genitals Mandix has since admitted to committing the crime and claimed to have done it due to poverty.
He will appear in court soon to answer the charge of attempted murder which is contrary to section 223 of the penal code.
Mandix hails from Mgoma village while Mashikudu hails from Nkhono village, both from Traditional Authority Tengani in Nsanje. Meanwhile Nkhunga Police in Nkhotakota is appealing to the general public to desist from false beliefs that links human body parts to wealth creation.
