Opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president Lazarus Chakwera has backed the decision by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) to fire and suspend some members over reports of indiscipline.
On Thursday, Chakwera announced that NEC has fired and suspended ten members following internal squabbles that have hit the party hard for a while. Among the axed members include Felix Jumbe who openly criticised Chakwera’s regime on state owned Malawi Broadcasting Station (MBC) for lacking leadership skills.
Other members such as Chatinkha Chidzanja Nkhoma and Southern Region Chairperson Azam Mwale have faced the exit door for accusing Chakwera of diverting party resources to fund the construction of his K650 Million mansion in Lilongwe.
Reacting on the development, Chakwera has disclosed that the decision by NEC was aimed at bringing sanity in Malawi’s oldest party.
“There have been some elements of indiscipline in the party that’s bringing discomfort among members and the public at large, our National Executive Committee made resolutions to ensure that the party is on track and not off track,” said Chakwera.
He added that the decision was also aimed at strengthening democratic principles in the country.
However, some members have disclosed that they are still members of the party despite the boot by the NEC. One of the members Chidzanja Nkhoma disclosed that she is still carrying the MCP flagship arguing that it is her choice to be in the party.

I just think he managed squabbles in a manner that Chakwera has so far failed.
I Chakwera and his style of leadership is good though.
