Malawi’s gospel artist Patience Namadingo has saluted South African musician Sipho Makhabane and people who turned up for the failed concert at Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe on Friday despite the event failing to take place.
The concert had an embarrassing sad ending as the patrons did not witness their favourite South African gospel singer Makhabane perform since the venue’s doors were closed. The organisers did not book the ever busy BICC forcing people to spend hours outside.
Drama began last week Tuesday as one local artist, Faith Mussa, who was supposed to support Makhabane pulled out due to the organisers’ lack of seriousness. This meant only Namadingo was to support the Over and Over hit maker.
The fans might have failed to witness Makhabane hold the mic on stage in the name of dishing gospel music but hours of being locked out gave them an opportunity to interact with him. Both Makhabane and Namadingo met their fans outside the venue as they were still hoping for greenlight.
“The people who bought tickets or paid at the door are not foolish but great people who came to the show regardless having heard negatives about the Sipho Makhabane show before its execution,” wrote Namadingo on his Facebook account.
He indirectly blamed the organisers for not doing enough to make the event happen saying they should have pushed their work a little more.
Namadingo wishes the 26th August was a Sunday with Sipho Makhabane as the old saying goes, all days are not Sundays. According to the Msati Mseke singer, courage is what made the people attend and love made the guest smile as he socialised with his fans outside the venue.
