A 13 year-old boy has died after a vehicle hit him at fresh water along the road to Chileka Airport in the commercial city of Blantyre.
The deceased, Francis M’dala was killed when a vehicle that was being driven by British citizen Mustafa Arif aged 26 was overtaking another motor vehicle.
Confirming to Malawi24, Chileka Police spokesperson Grace Mwale said the vehicle with registration BQ572 is reported to have hit the boy who was walking on a path near the main road.
“The vehicle was driven from Kameza roundabout to Chileka airport near fresh water and it was overtaking other motor vehicle, unfortunately the driver lost control and hit the boy who was walking on a path some meters away the road,” said Mwale.
She added that the boy was pronounced dead upon reaching Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) and postmortem reveals that he has died due to serious head injuries while the driver sustained chest injuries.
The deceased hailed from Puli village, Traditional Authority (TA) Kapeni in Blantyre city.
