Juju in Malawi’s football: FAM waiting for report on Nomads’ barbaric act against Mangochi Police

Suspected Mighty Wanderers bouncers manhandled Mangochi Police shot-stopper George Chauya before pouring on him pork fats in presence of some officials from the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) at half time during the Carlsberg Cup semi-final at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

After the incident, Chauya was forced off as he sustained some injuries in the process.

Now, the FA through the Competitions Manager Gomezgani Zakazaka says the association is just waiting for the report from the General Coordinator before coming up with actions.

“I don’t want to speculate here but let’s just wait for the General Coordinator’s report of the incident and then actions will follow.”

“I saw nothing as I was just called after the whole incident had already taken place so it will be wrong to speculate and the best we can do is to wait for the report which will be ready by Monday.”

“However, as FA, we strongly condemn this barbaric act and if found guilty, proper actions will follow. We don’t tolerate violence in football,” he said.

The latest incident comes barerly a week after the same team was punished by the FA for the violence that erupted between their supporters and Prison United fans at Balaka Stadium during a quarter-final match between the two sides.

This also comes just weeks after the FA punished Mafco FC players and official for beating Big Bullets players at Chitowe Stadium ahead of their quarter-final showdown which was then shifted to last week for security and safety reasons.

The Nomads won the game and progressed to the final courtesy of Ishmael Thindwa’s 61st minute strike seconds after coming in as a substitute.

Justice has never been shown on teams from division lyk Mangochi Police fc & this is encouraged by fam itself, you can see the last two Mangochi games has been played at home ground for opponets which wasn’t fair for Mangochi. I also blame fifa rules; in this case playing under protest for Mangochi wasn’t a fair game otherwise players were already frustrated with their life safety, i think the best rule to be applied was to disqualify the team acting in a barbaric manner regurdless of how big/popular the team is.
