The Ntchisi First Grade Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a 31-year-old man to 18 months imprisonment with hard labour for impersonating a police officer.
The court heard that the convict Ian Kachama on July 23 2016 at Khuwi Trading Centre in Ntchisi impersonated a police officer to rescue his friends who were caught by community policing members for burglary charges.
The convict pleaded guilty to the charge of impersonating a police officer.
In his ruling, First Grade Magistrate Yohane Nkhata said the offender deserves a custodial sentence to deter other would-be offenders.
Kachama comes from Kalolo Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kalolo in Lilongwe.
In a related development, the court has sentenced Samuel Chikula, 30, to 60 months IHL for unlawful wounding.
The court heard that the accussed on August 13 2016 at Amoni Village assaulted and injured his biological mother on the forehead.
This happened because the mother suspected the son to have stolen two bags of maize and 34 kilograms of soya beans.
