Malawi Police officers arrest car thief

Malawi Police officers in Mulanje district have recovered a vehicle which was stolen at Lilongwe City Mall in the capital city.

The Nissan Tiida Latio which belong to Beatrice Kalungulu was recovered at Muloza in Mulanje.

The law enforcers have since arrested 28 year-old Felix Banda who stole the motor vehicle.

According to Mulanje Police Public Relations Officer Gresham Ngwira, Banda removed the registration number of the car and replaced it with BS 9292 but was arrested after he went with the vehicle to a garage to have its colour changed.

“When he reached Mulanje the suspect went to a certain garage to have the colour changed but the owner of the garage became suspicious and reported the incident to Muloza Police,” said Ngwira.

Law enforcers in the district joined by anti-motor vehicle theft team in Lilongwe ambushed the place before arresting Banda.

Police in Mulanje have since commended the community for strong partnership that led to arrest of the suspect.

Meanwhile investigations are underway on the matter. The suspect hails from Mphula Village, Traditional Authority Ganya in Ntcheu district.
