Traditional healer gets 20 years for raping 2 women who wanted luck charms
The Zomba magistrate court has sentenced a 47 year-old man to 20 years imprisonment with hard labour for raping two women who sought luck charms from his shrine.
According to Zomba police publicist Patricia Supuliyano, the convict, Mr Simoko, is known to be a traditional doctor in the district.
Supuliyano said late last month, the two ladies went to the convict’s house so that he could give them good luck charms.
The women were looking for the potions so that they should be lucky in every situation and the convict assured them that he could find the charms.
The rapist then told the ladies to be entering a small room one by one for the ritual.
Malawi24 understands that the convict gave the victims some potions and soon after taking the medicines, the women fell asleep and the wicked man found a chance to rape them.
After waking up, the ladies were told to get out of the room to throw away some razor blades which the rapist claimed to have used during the supposed ritual and that’s when the women realized that they had been raped.
The matter was later reported to Zomba police who arrested the convict and a medical report from Zomba hospital indicated that the two women had been raped.
Passing his sentence, magistrate Wyson Nkhata handed the rapist a 20 year jail term saying he had given him a lenient sentence because the man said he takes care of his wife who is epileptic.
Simoko hails from Kumbewa village in the area of Traditional Authority Chikowi in the old capital city of Zomba.
