Blantyre Market vendors have praised Blantyre Youth Group (BYG) after the organisation went to clean the car park area and vending place outside the market on Saturday morning.
Apart from cleaning the outside area, the Blantyre based group also donated three temporary recycle Bins and ten brooms to the market, to make sure that the place remains clean.
Market chairman Steven James expressed gratitude for the initiative saying he was happy to see the Youth Group doing voluntary work.
“Every vendor is excited here for the job well done by these young people. The place looks cleaner than before they have touched everywhere from the outside, and on top of that they have also given us temporary bins and brooms to use for a while and we are so grateful for this,” said the chairman.
On his part, Boniface Yolamu who is a fruit vendor gave credit to the youth group for the good example they have shown and assured that the vendors will make sure to keep their business places clean.
“We thank Blantyre Youth Group for coming here to clean and donate bins to the Market. This place was not like this clean before, this is a beautiful example from these young people. We have got the City workers who come to clean everyday but the only things we were lacking were recycle bins.
”Though they are just temporary but they are going to help us a lot and we don’t take this for granted because we know they have used their pocket income to buy us these materials and we promise to take care of them.”
The activity started at exactly 6 oclock in the morning and was organised to help government and Blantyre City Council in making sure that the city looks clean and green.
According to the events manager, Frazer Chirwa, the group will also go to clean the Children’s ward at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Blantyre Youth Group is a not-for-a profit independent youth group comprising of young people based in Blantyre and was established on 01 June 2016 to urge fellow youths to participate in development projects.
The group is trusteed by Kumbukani Namanja.
