A 30 year-old man who was driving under the influence of alcohol has died after the vehicle he was driving slammed into a lorry in Blantyre.
The man Waston Binauli died on the spot when his Toyota Corolla registration number NN 667 hit a lorry registration number BLK 1620 near Kameza roundabout at around 00:30 hours on Friday.
Blantyre Police assistant spokesperson Andrew Mayawo said the deceased was heading to Grand and Grill bar near the roundabout.
“When Police rushed to the scene they found empty bottles of beer in Binauli’s vehicle that has been turned to scrap following the accident,” he said.
Mayawo then warned drivers not to drive while drunk arguing that the habit fuels road accidents.
“The public should note that they are not supposed to drive whilst drunk, the slogan ‘don’t drink and drive’ has been there for decades but people are not learning from accidents and deaths of others,” added Mayawo.
The deceased hailed from Khosala village, Traditional Authority (TA) Chikowi in Zomba district.
