Man in jail for possessing fake Malawian bank notes
A 35 year-old man has been arrested for being found with counterfeit Malawi Kwacha bank notes, police say.
Deputy Public Relations Officer for Limbe police Pedzesai Zembeneko confirmed to Malawi24 on the development.
Zembeneko identified the suspect as Daniel Mandala who was found with fake bank notes amounting to K10,200
He explained that on 3 August, 2016 around 7pm Mandala bought bananas at Limbe Petroda Filling Station using a fake K500 note.
“The vendor recognised that it was a fake note and immediately shouted for help,” Zembeneko said.
The vendor’s scream alerted police officers who were nearby and they apprehended the suspect.
When searched he was found with 19 more K500 notes and two K200 notes. The fake Kwachas totalled K10,200.
Meanwhile, Mandala will appear in court to answer charges of being found with fake bank notes contrary to section 32 (2 ) (a) of Reserve Bank Act.
Daniel Mandala comes from Kalolo village in the area of Traditional Authority Kalolo in Lilongwe district.
