Two men have been charged with murder after a 13 year-old boy died days after getting circumcised at an initiation camp in Kasungu.
Confirming the development to malawi24, public relations officer Edna Mzingwitsa spokesperson identified the suspects as Asiyeni Asauka and Jeke Welemu from Kasungu district.
The two circumcised the boy Julius Sainet at a local initiation ceremony which took place on 17 July 2016 but soon after having his foreskin cut, the young boy developed a fever. He died five days later due to loss of blood.
When they noticed that the circumcision had gone wrong, the two men run away but the police launched a manhunt for them.
“Currently, the two have been charged with murder which is contrary to section 209 of the penal code,” said Mzingwitsa.
Asiyeni Asauka comes from Nyanda village while Jeke Welemu hails from Masaka village in the area Traditional authority Wimbe in Kasungu district.
