Long at last! President Peter Mutharika has finally given in to students’ demands to meet him over the University of Malawi (Unima) fees hike issue.
According to a press statement from the presidency, Mutharika will meet students union presidents from constituent colleges of Unima on 4th August 2016 at Kamuzu Palace.
This comes after students from public universities requested for an audience with the president.
In the press release, the president said it has pleased him to grant the students union leaders their request.
The students wrote a letter asking to meet the president over the decision made by the university council to hike fees.
Last month students from the country’s public universities staged protests to express their anger over the fees hike.
