School authorities in Zomba have raised eyebrows after they requested parents whose kids are HIV positive to notify the teachers about their children’s status. HIV test

The school authorities  made the request after concerns from teachers that learners who are HIV positive may find it hard to cope with their status  hence they may need special treatment in class.

Speaking during a memorial ceremony organised by Zomba City Council, deputy headteacher for Satima Primary School Elizabeth Nsutseni said children who are living with HIV need special treatment.

She claimed that when the teachers are aware of the children’s status, it can be easy for them to help the children in class.

“It is important for us teachers to know the status of the learners so that we should be able to give them the special treatment they deserve,” she said.

Nsutseni argued that it can be hard for the teachers to identify and help the children if no proper communication has been made to them.

She then pledged that her school will introduce some activities that will help HIV positive children to cope with their status so that they should focus on their studies.
