As people in the country are experiencing acute food shortage, the United States government has announced an additional $20 million donation to Malawi for food relief.
The announcement was made by Dr Jill Biden, wife to vice president of the United States of America after visi

ting hunger resilient projects implemented by her the US government in Machinjiri in Blantyre.
The announcement brings the total of money donated for food aid to Malawi since October last year to $75 million.
In April this year, President Peter Mutharika declared a state of national disaster over food shortages caused by erratic climate conditions.
“I declare Malawi in a state of national disaster following prolonged dry spells during the 2015, 2016 agriculture season,” said Mutharika.
About 14 million people face food crisis in Southern Africa because of a drought exacerbated by El Niño.
