Kaliati: All constituencies will have telecentre

The project started way back in 2010 and it has been a continuous project as government want to use it to promote information and communications technology (ICT) in the country.

Minister responsible Patricia Kaliati said government is looking forward to construct the telecenters in all the constituencies in the country.

“The project started in 2010 whereby telecenters are to be constructed in all the 193 constituencies of the country,” said Kaliati.

She added that three quarters of the work has been done and only a few constituencies have been left behind.

Kaliati also disclosed that some telecenters are only waiting to be provided with computers and furniture to start operating.

Government rolled out establishment of telecentres to improve access to all information members of the communities may look for, among others, through internet and other electronically driven services.

However, there have been concerns that communities are not fully utilising the telecentres, a development which has raised doubts over whether intended objectives of the facilities will be achieved.
