A fisherman is missing after falling from a boat on Lake Malawi at Chizumulu Island days after a similar incident on the same water body.
According to Chief Buthu of Chizumulu Island, the incident happened on Saturday night and he identified the missing fisherman as Elia Chindamba.
Chief Buthu said Chindamba fell from the boat which had four other fishermen as the boat was travelling at a very high speed.
He added that the boat was on a race with another boat which as well had five fishermen on board.
The men were coming from a fishing trip. The other fishermen noticed that they had lost one of their friends after sailing for a few meters.
They then called their friends in the other boat to help them look for their friend but they did not find him.
At the time of publishing, a search was still going on for the missing fisherman.
The development comes two weeks after five people who went fishing drowned in Lake Malawi in Nkhatabay district after a boat they were sailing in capsized.
