Breaking News

University Students at the Chancellor College in Zomba are demonstrating against the recently announced fees hike.

The students are protesting against the decision by the University Council to snub their request to revise raise fees for generic and mature students.

The students at Chanco have since blocked the road that leads to the college from Zomba town forcing some of the lecturers and visitors to the college use the gravel road as an option.

After the fees hike was announced, the students petitioned the Ministry of Education requesting the council to consider not raising fees for generic students while fees for mature students should go high with only 30 percent.

Malawi24 Breaking NewsBut the council recently indicated that its decision will not be rescinded saying that the students’ arguments lacked “empirical justifications”.

Students at the Polytechnic are reportedly not joining any from of protest as they are in the thick of examinations and are afraid of seeing the school shut again as it were last year when they held protests that emanated from a disagreement on student loans.

UNIMA FEES HIKE

The fees see Chancellor College as the cheapest with its mature students paying K900,000. The Polytechnic comes next with a fee of K950,000.

Mature students studying at Kamuzu College of Nursing will be required to pay K1,000,000 while those at the College of Medicine will be asked to pay K1,400,000.

  1. Hello I’m Samuel Okizou by name, I’m giving a testimony about Dr.Sule the great Herbalist, he has the cure to all manner of diseases, he cured my HIV disease, though I went through different website I saw different testimonies about different herbalists, I was like: “Many people have the HIV cure why are people still suffering from it?” I thought of it, then I contact Dr.Sule via email, I didn’t believe him that much, I just wanted to give him a try, he replied my mail and Needed some Information about me, then I sent them to him, he prepared the CURE and sent it to me via UPS courier service, they told me that it will take 3-4 days before I’ll get the parcel, 3 days later I received the package and I started taking the medicine as prescribed by him, after 7 days of taking the medicine I went for check-up, I was tested HIV NEGATIVE… IF YOU ARE SERIOUS YOU WILL BE CURED!!! contact Dr Sule on whats-app +2348162447651

  2. i know we all have maganizo on this matter, but to those speaking about other strategies other than mademo i would like to point the following things out attempted by the Students: 1. the students through the Univer.. of Malawi Students Union (UMSU) met with the Minister of Ed, to see how he could help but the hon. minister refered them to the Unima council that he won’t involve himself in this. (2) UMSU met with the UNIMA council 3-4 times so that it should consider hiking the fees ‘reasonably’, but the council stood on its grounds that the decision was final. (3) UMSU opted for peaceful vigils at the University Office only to have their application for the same being denied by the DC that the application was not meeting some ‘Police Act’ needs for the vigils. (4) UMSU had the application for the vigils resubmitted after meeting the needs mentioned in 3 only to have it turned down again for no known reasons (5) the Students Union considered bringing the judiciary into the matter by seeking an injuction to DCs decion, this did not work either and there was one more way left….. i know ena you are rich or atleast you are from rich families that 400,000 its nothing to you, blessed are you but i tell you there a cetain hopeless, underprivilleged child somewhere in rural who is intelligent enough that he dreams of minimising the poverty in his/her family by having a degree, i tell u he is working hard at that CDSS where he has paid 3,000 to have good points should MSCE come, uyu adzakwanitsa akamva za 400,000 fees??

    Choose Repre
    Write your concerns
How you think fees probs can be solved
Present it to President, unima admin present
    Go back to Xul

    If that don’t work…
As a college, with the help of ur president
    Agree not to register
    Be home

No violence is a big voince sometimes

But remember, I hv not been at college

  4. THAT IS THE MUTHARIKA GOVERNMENT. EVERYTHING SHALL GO UP. IT IS A TAX-UP, FEES-UP GOVERNMENT. INSTEAD OF INVESTING IN AGRICULTURE OR INDUSTRY, IT IS INVESTING IN ITS PEOPLE. REVENUE COLLECTORS ARE EVERYWHERE. EVERYTHING IS TAX TAX TAX. IN THE NEAR FUTURE EVEN DOG OWNERSHIP WILL BE TAXABLE. IT IS TAX TAX TAX WITH PETER. FEES FEES FEES! CHIEFS HAVE BEEN ROBBED OF LAND OWNERSHIP SO THAT TAX TAX TAX SHOULD GO WELL. TAX TAX TAX! FEES FEES FEES! REVENUE REVENUE REVENUE! UP UP UP! HOZA! BY DECEMBER THIS YEAR NDITHU TIKUDYA MCHENGA.

  5. Who is responsible to pay for the fee? Guardian or student? You just went there but you don’t have knowledge like me, cause the one who will pay that money are the ones who are suitable to organize that demos not you cups and spoons

  6. Lucky you guys, may the Almighty strengthen your straggle. just ashamed of our xul coz we are the first to face this hike. This is the concern for everybody and we all need to get hands together as a nation. Kwa amene simukuona kufunika kwake just wait in two years muziona and it can be wise to keep ur mouth shut.

In every disputes there is always a meaningful way of addressing not going by street, students you are risking your life for a mare impatience, if only the police can come in, you would hear casualties others even loose life, I warn to stop doing demo which will endanger your ecademics and life

    1. madala njila zose tinaesa koma akanika kutimvera so if peace failed try violance.enafe komwe timachoka zokolola zisanafikepo even k200,000.

    2. Ok what if they decide to close the institution? Am concerned because demonstrations are usually characterised by violence and the innocent are the most affected, here in Zambia a friend suffered a broken spine because he was badly beaten by police during a demo which we took during my time in school, my brother, my friend is on the wheel chair since 2001. They are good when you have survived. Becareful

  9. Koma pena pake bomali likanaganizira kodi ntchito yake iti yapamalawi pano nkumakweza fees choncho? Zoti makolo akumaphika mowa wa kachaso nkumalipirira ana fees boma likuziwa? Uku tsopano ndikulesa kuti anthu asaphunzire

  10. But if they go out and damage and destroy other pple’s properties, its not worthy supporting and it’s a war we’ll not allow them to do this, let them demonstrate peacefully not causing havoc to innocent pple.

    1. So you mean the students should just keep quite as their future is tampered with? If the government itself doesn’t have money, where will a common villager get K400,000.00? And you say ma Demo anatha, who said so? Students just did that yesterday. Toy-toying with a person’s future is commiting political suicide for the government.

  15. to those who know the worth of these demos will surely support them but woe to those who can’t see its worth and are busy condemning these demos!! go go go guys!!
    #kayende_basi

    1. if you have what it takes to be there, then this is not your fight. just think of masses who can’t afford that fee and put yourself in their shoes, would you have just folded your arms? try reasoning before putting forwad your arguement because in most cases literal translation can be misleading!! #Madalitso_Magalasi

    2. #Magalasi? anthu akuvutka mmizimu yet ali nd nzeru zophunzira ku tertiary! musatengele chuma chamakolo anu mkumat aliyens ali chomcho! u nid to be sympathetic,f u want to b agud citizen! moyo oterowo or mutakhala prezdent anthu amdziko lanu azngovutika
