Police arrest Mangochi cottage thieves

Police in Mangochi have arrested two criminals who broke into cottages in the district.

According to Mangochi Police deputy spokesperson Amina Tepani Daudi, the two are Richard Mophat, 54, and George Kamangira, 53, Daudi said the two, at around 2am on 16th June broke into Hamdan Cottage and went away with items worth K600,000.

On 25th June, the same thieves broke into Pepyrus Cottage and went away with assorted items worth K700,000.

In both incidents the robbers gained entry into the buildings by breaking the main doors.

“Both matters were reported to Makokola Police Post and scenes of crime were visited and investigations were conducted thoroughly, fortunately after being tipped off, Richard was arrested who managed to reveal his friend,” said Daudi.

Following the arrest of the two, the police recovered several items including a LG mini fridge, 3 TV screens, 2 amplifiers, 12 mattresses, 4 DVD players, 13 blankets, 16 curtains, 20 bed sheets, 6 louvers, a microwave, a rice cooker, 5 pillows, 3 bathing towels, 2 metal pots, a duvet, and a bicycle.

The suspects will appear in court to answer charges of breaking into a building and committing felony therein contrary to section 311 of Penal Code.

Mophat hails from Njobvu village, Traditional Authority Ngabu while Kamangira hails from Namachuwa Village Traditional Authority Maseya, all villages are in Chikhwawa district.
