“The initiative is very good, we hope that it will boost SMEs towards developing this country economically by reducing cost spent to have vital information because you are required to move from one place to another to source business information,” said Mkandawire.

He however urged government to ensure the website is working all the times as it carries vital information for the business atmosphere of the country.

“The challenge is that most of the websites created by government you find it hard to access them, we hope it will not be the case with this trade portal,” added Mkandawire.

On Thursday, government through the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism launched the trade portal, which is a one-stop website for trade-related regulatory information for import, export and transit trade, and complements World Trade Organization (WTO) Agreement on Trade Facilitation.

The portal will help in facilitating trade and investments by providing easy access to trade-related regulatory information to traders and businesses in a bid to enhance transparency and accountability.

Information that can be found on the Portal includes: all commercial laws and regulations governing import, export and transit of commercial goods, procedures and requirements for processing licenses and various permits, and the samples of these application forms that can be downloaded.
