Police in Limbe, Blantyre have netted five criminals who were wanted for breaking into houses in the area and stealing various items.
According to Assistant Public Relations Officer for Limbe Police Widson Nhlane, on Tuesday the Criminal Investigations Department officers launched investigations and managed to arrest the five who were on their wanted list.
“What happened is that after discovering that theft around Limbe jurisdiction were rampant our CID officers launched an investigation and on 12 July they managed to arrest five people,” said Nhlane.
The suspects are Bernard Idrissa aged 26 from Kasule village in Balaka, Charles Maulana aged 28 from Chabwera village T/A Sitola in Machinga, Frank Duncan aged 26 from Kuthanguwo village T/A Chikumba in Mulanje.
Duncan Martin aged 23 from Mbenje village T/A Ngabu in Nsanje and Tinja Austine aged 43 from Mwambanje village T/A Ngabu in Chikhwawa.
They will appear before court soon to answer charges of burglary and theft. In a related development, an unknown man suspected to be in his 30s has drowned in Lunzu stream in Mapanga area. The body of the deceased was found by people who went to mine sand at the stream.
The matter was reported to police who visited the scene and later took the body to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital for post-mortem.
Meanwhile, the police are urging the general public to report to Limbe police if their relative is missing or to go to Queen Elizabeth hospital mortuary to identify the dead body.
