Malawi’s Prison break: Four inmates escape from Maula prison

Four prisoners have today escaped from Maula prison in the capital city Lilongwe.

Confirming the development, the country’s prison spokesperson Smart Maliro said the four inmates ran away after hacking down the fence of the institution.

Maliro identified the four criminals as James Saudi and Nix Nomini who both hail from Mangochi district, Chande Saudi from Salima and Edward Majawa who comes from Lilongwe.

According to prison records, the four were convicted sometime back as they were found guilty of murder and armed robbery.

However, Maliro denied to comment much on the development saying investigations have been launched to establish what really happened and to get the criminals back to the institution. 3 hours ago
