Like the Biblical Jonah, Malawi Congress Party (MCP) leader Lazarus Chakwera has gone back ton seeking the face of God after being hit by a political storm in the party he is leading.
For a while, MCP has been reported to be experiencing leadership wrangles. The disagreements came to the surface on Sunday when two top party members were chased from a rally the party held in Salima district where Chakwera was in attendance.
According to information sourced by Malawi24, Salima South MP Felix Jumbe and Salima East MP Jessie Kabwila were chased from the party’s rally for being outspoken lawmakers in Parliament.
Commenting on the development, Chakwera admitted that there are shake-ups in the party but said they will put down the differences.
“There are problems everywhere, in organizations, churches, companies, in fact where there are more people expect problems. I have been in leadership for decades and I know these things better but with God’s grace, we will make it,” said Chakwera.
Meanwhile, Jumbe has confirmed that he has landed in trouble for speaking the truth about the party on several issues. He added that his courage has led to claims that he wants to join the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
MCP’s intolerance comes shortly after the ruling Democratic Progressive Party also chased its Member Bon Winiko Kalindo from a rally that the party President Peter Mutharika held in Mulanje.
Kalindo was accused of undermining the party structures when he organised a march against the killings of people with albinism.
