Police in Nkhotakota district are keeping in custody a medical worker at Nkhotakota District Hospital for attempting to rape a woman who went to the hospital to collect medicine.
Nkhotakota Police Public Relations Officer Sub Inspector Williams Kaponda identified the suspect as 43 year-old Ian Chimutu.
According to Kaponda, the woman’s daughter was diagnosed with TB and on Friday she went to Nkhotakota hospital to collect medicine for the girl.
At the hospital she met the suspect at TB Ward who told her to go to the examination room and wait for him.
The wicked nurse later followed the woman to the room and locked the door.
He then started caressing the woman’s breast and thighs. At that point the victim shouted for help and the nurse let her go.
The woman however reported the matter to the District Health Officer and later the police were told.
The suspect comes from Phale Village Traditional Authority Khombedza in Salima and will appear in court soon.
