All set for 20th Anniversary Mount Mulanje Porters’ Race

The 20th Anniversary Mount Mulanje Porters Race will take place on Saturday, 9th July 2016 at Likhubula Valley to Lichenya Plateau.

Up to 500 runners are expected to battle it out for the ultimate prize in a 22 km distance in less than three hours.

On preparations, organizing committee Chairman Kondwani Chamwala told Malawi24 that all is set for one of the biggest events in Malawi.

“Things are in good shape, the ground work is done where by paths and bridges have already been cleared,” he said.

The event is organized by the Mulanje Mountain Conservation Trust (MMCT) and will partner Save the Children and Malawi Gaming Board.

“We have partnered Save the Children and Malawi Gaming Board who have just come in to give prize money to the winners. We have also received support from Tourism Association of Mulanje for this biggest annual event,” continued Chamwala.

Chamwala also added that spectators will have a chance to watch Lulu and Lawi performing live on stage, traditional dances and a race for the children as supported by Save the Children under the theme ‘Save the Forests of Mount Mulanje.

Serve Every Last Child of Malawi’. Female participants will be required to pay a registration fee of K300, with Porters paying K400 and Malawian men will be requested to pay K800 for registration whilst International participants will be required to pay a registration fee of K10 000.

Last year winner Charles Musowa and Doreece Fischer are expected to take part in the event.
