Despite the Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) disclosing that the holy month of Ramadan will come to an end on Thursday, Muslims across the world have agreed that the moon that allows them to end fasting has been sighted and that means that fasting is ending today.

The Hilaal of Shawwal and Eid al-Fitr has been sighted and confirmed by a South African Muslim body called UUCSA and the High Judiciary Council of Saudi Arabia.

The UCCSA and High Judiciary Council of Saudi Arabia have therefore allowed Muslims across the world to pray Eid on Wednesday.

In their announcement, the High Judiciary Council of Saudi has indicated that since the moon of Shawwaal was not sighted this evening, the Muslims shall be completing 30 days of Ramadan.

“In accordance with the hadeeth of the Messenger of Allah (sal-Allaahu ‘alayhiwa sallam): Fast when you see the crescent [of Ramadan]. If it is obscured to you, then complete thirty days of Sha’baan. And break your fast when you see the crescent [of Shawwaal]. If it is obscured to you then fast thirty days [of Ramadan]. Subsequently, we shall be celebrating ‘Eid al-Fitr on Wednesday 6th July 2016,” reads the announcement.

This means that in the country Muslims have performed Ramadan in 29 days.

Malawi through the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has declared the speculated 7th July as public holiday to commemorate the Eid al-Fitr prayers.
