A 45 year-old man identified as Francis Kalimbuka was on Saturday killed after a fight broke out at a drinking joint in Salima district.
Salima Police Public Relations Officer Gift Chitowe the police have arrested a suspect identified as 32 year-old Matumbi Edwin Smart.
Chitowe said on Saturday night the two were drinking beer together but they later disagreed on an issue and began fighting.
The deceased was winning the fight but when the suspect saw that he had been overpowered, he picked a stone and used it to hit Kalimbuka on the head.
The victim fainted on the spot and he died while being taken to Salima District Hospital. Post-mortem conducted at the hospital revealed that the death was due to head injuries.
The suspect is expected to appear in court soon to answer the charge of murder.
Smart hails from Whayo Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kapeni in Blantyre while Kalimbuka comes from Chikhwaza Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mthiramanja in Mulanje.
