Road accident in Dedza claims one life

A woman has died while three others have sustained serious injuries after the vehicle they were travelling in was involved in an accident.

Dedza police deputy publicist constable Cassim Manda identified the deceased as Luiza Zongani of Chinkombero village in the area of Traditional Authority Kamenyagwaza in Dedza.

According to Manda, the accident occurred at around 6am on Saturday at Mwaiwaza village along M5 road as the Canter with the registration number CK 740 that carried Irish potatoes and had six passengers on board was coming from Golomoti heading towards Mua direction.

When the vehicle arrived at Maiwaza village, the driver Nathan Jali, 31, lost control and the car swerved to the extreme left verge where it suddenly stopped.

Zongani suffered internal injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at Mua mission hospital due while five others sustained serious injuries.

Police have since arrested Jali for causing death due to reckless driving. He hails from Kamenyagwaza village, T/A kamenyagwaza in Dedza

Meanwhile, in the month of June Dedza police recorded a total number of 16 road accidents which led to the death of two people while five others suffered serious injuries.
