Men fined for possessing 45Kg of chamba

The Nkhunga Court in Nkhotakota has convicted and ordered two men to pay a fine of K80, 000 each or in default to serve 30 months in jail for being found with Chamba weighing 45 kilograms.

According to Nkhotakota Police Public Relations Officer Sub-Inspector Williams Kaponda, the convicts are James Frazer, 30, and Sosten Jackson, 28, who were arrested at Mkaika Trading Centre after Police placed a checkpoint in the area.

CourtIn court, Prosecutor James Muyira presented facts of the matter and the two were found guilty.

Passing judgement, His Worship Kingsley Buleya ordered the two to pay a fine of K80,000 each or in default to serve a 30-month jail term with hard labour.

James Frazer Jackson hails from Makadalira village, Traditional Authority Kafuzira in Nkhotakota District while Sosten Jackson comes from Sharpe valley Village, Traditional Authority Ganya in Ntcheu district.
