Man arrested for selling ARVs to Kachasu brewer

Police in Ntchisi district have arrested an 18 year-old man who was selling Antiretroviral (ARVs) drugs to a Kachasu brewer.

According to Public Relations Officer for Ntchisi Police station Sergeant Gladson M’bumpha, when they arrested the suspect, Mike Wachipa, they found him with 43 tablets of ARVs and 500 grams of Indian hemp.

“The incident happened on 30 June 2016 at Chiwembe village whereby the suspect Mike Wachipa was found in possession of medical drugs without license and Indian hemp,” he said.

ARVsAccording to M’bumpha, the police received a tip that Wachipa was selling ARVs to a woman who owns a local brewery.

The law enforcers followed up on the matter after the tip and managed to arrest the suspect who was found with one bottle of ARVs and Indian hemp. They also managed to confiscate the ARVs and the Indian hemp.

The suspect will appear before court soon to answer charges of being found in possession of medical drugs without license as well as being found in possession of Indian hemp.

Wachipa hails from Mgungu village in the area of Traditional Authority Kalumo in Ntchisi district.
