Musician Giddes Chalamanda has finally set off on a dream trip to the United States of America (USA) where he is expected to hold several shows.

The 86 year-old musician left today through Chileka Airport and he could not hide his excitement at the reality of travelling just like former President Kamuzu Banda did.

“Have you believed now that with God everything is possible? Who knew that I would travel like Ngwazi? May God bless you so that you should also achieve your dreams,” wrote Chalamanda on Facebook.

The trip, dubbed the “Giddes Coming to America Tour” will see the acoustic musician together with other artists holding several concerts in Atlanta, Washington DC, and Indiana, among other places in America.

The veteran musician will also attend workshops and hold lectures on Malawian music and culture.

Chalamanda’s US trip has been funded by money made through initiatives spearheaded by a group of Malawians that included artists Edgar ndi Davis, Macdonald Chapalapata, and lawyer Gift Mwakhwawa.

The group organised the various fundraising activities in order to help Chalamanda achieve his long-held dream of going to America.

The musician who is from Chiradzulu has been performing for over 50 years.

This is however not his first time to perform overseas as he has twice travelled to Europe to hold shows.
