Bullets in trouble again, with Karonga

While the pain of being hammered by a team that has been struggling in the Super league, Malawi24 can disclose that Blantyre giants are still in trouble. This time the trouble is shared with the team that shocked them: Karonga United.

It was not all about that high flying match that saw defending champions Nyasa Bullets fall to rookies Karonga United, but the two teams could be in for a fresh trouble for a series of incidents that saw police’s intervention after the match.

Karonga United Hygiene Mwandepeka’s lone goal on 78th minute was more of a blow to the Peoples team but also appears to have attracted trouble for the Blantyre side.

According to reports, the goal did not go well with Bullets supporters whose anger after the match also met the jovial chants by Karonga United supporters, and the supporters were involved in ugly incidents before law enforcers intervened by throwing tear gas to disperse the supporters of the two teams who were pelting stones at each other.

It is said that Bullets supporters also intended to beat up the referee after he had red carded one of their players.

The Super league of Malawi  (Sulom) has said that the incidents are being investigated and any team found in the wrong will be ‘dealt’ with according to the laws of the game.

Sulom’s General Secretary Tiya Somba Banda says officials will be meeting over the matter to bang heads on how to deal with the situation.

This comes amid incessant condemnation of hooliganism in the game of football in Malawi.

While the result was not only Karonga’s first win in the league, it saw them moving up to 14th on the log with 6 points from 9 games while Bullets are stuck on 10th position with 12 points from 7 games.
