Malawian man attempts suicide after wife denies him sex

A man in Ntchisi district tried to kill himself because his wife has been denying him sex for the past six months, Malawi24 has learnt.

The man, 67 year-old Chikwawe Binalisoni, tried to kill himself by setting fire to his house while he was inside.

According to Public Relations Officer for Ntchisi police station Gladson M’bumpha, the man had been selling the family’s farm produce in order to fund his drinking habit and this angered Binalison’s wife who refused to have sex with him as a form of punishment.

But on 21 June the two quarrelled over the lack of sex and that is when the man decided to set their house on fire.

When the house began burning, Binalison’s son Maxwell Chimaneni and other villagers rescued him.

However, the villagers could not save property such as kitchen utensils, maize, and clothes which were burnt to ashes.

Police have since arrested Binalison and he will soon appear before court to answer charges of attempted suicide and arson. He hails from Chimaneni village T/A Nthondo in Ntchisi district
