Man arrested after being found driving stolen car

A joint operation by Mzimba Police and Nkhotakota Police on Sunday led to the arrest of Josephy Mussa Sendeza, 28, who was found driving a stolen car.

The police also recovered the vehicle which was stolen on June 10 in Mzimba.

According to Nkhotakota Police Public Relations Officer Sub-Inspector Williams Kaponda, Sendeza was found driving the Toyota Sienta which originally had a registration number MZ3484.

crime (2)“The suspect who was found driving the vehicle was arrested within Nkhotakota Trading Centre but original numbers were removed on the vehicle and replaced with fake registration number KK1972,” said Kaponda

He added that the suspect will together with the motor vehicle be taken to Mzimba Police Station for further investigations.

Sendeza comes from Chiwaliwali Village T/A Malenga in Ntchisi district.

In another development, Police in Nkhatabay are looking for unknown criminals who broke into the accounts office at Chintheche Magistrate court.

Peter Jere who works at the court as a clerk told police that on 15th June 2016 he knocked off at 16:30 leaving the office well locked and secured under the guardian of George Kumwenda who is a court marshal.

When Jere reported for duties the next day, he was told by the court marshal that the accounts office had been broken into and when he went around the office, he discovered that the criminals gained entry through the rear window.

The matter was reported to Chintheche police and the cops visited the crime scene where they discovered that the safe in the cashiers’ office was tampered with but nothing was stolen.

Once arrested, the suspects will answer charges of breaking into a building with intent to commit a felony therein which is contrary to section 312 of the penal code.
