A 24 year-old Malawian was on Sunday kidnapped by a man who had given her a lift in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The woman, Yamikani Kansunje, was taken to the man’s house and held for a day before she found a chance to get away.
According to her employer Francis Muleso, the young Malawian had the day off on Saturday and she went to visit her friend in another part of Johannesburg.
“She went on her off day on Saturday. Normally she comes back in on Sunday evening but she never did. Her friend says they parted ways on MTN taxi rank around 5pm when she was about to board a taxi to Midland where I live,” said Muleso
After noticing that Kansunje was not getting back home, Muleso got worried and contacted her brother and other friends but they all did not know what had happened to the young woman. On Monday, the matter was reported to police.
However, on Tuesday afternoon Kansunje called the friend she was last seen with and told her she was going to her house.
Kansunje later told her employer that she was given a lift by a white guy who took her to his house and locked her up. She spent a day in the house without access to her phone but by the grace of God she run away and contacted her family and friends.
“I have spoken to her. Her story is that when she was on her way to my place on Sunday, it got dark and she called her white male friend to pick her up and drop her at my place in Midland. Unfortunately the friend took her to his house in Bedford View without her consent, took away her phone and held her there without her permission. She escaped today,” said Muleso on Tuesday.
At press time, it was not clear if the police will file a case against kidnapper.
