Guard nabbed for stealing millions from employer

Police in Blantyre have arrested a guard for stealing millions of Kwacha from his boss.

The guard, 33 year-old Frank Macheso, connived with a cook and a garden boy to steal K2,550,000 from their employer.

Confirming to Malawi24, Blantyre police deputy spokesperson Andrew Mayawo said the employer Heena Thakrar, 52, reported the matter to police.

crime (2)“The three managed to steal while the boss was at a shop where he does business. After the boss came and noticed that the cash that was kept in his house in Namiwawa was stolen on May 10, 2016, he came to report,” he said.

Mayawo added that the suspects run away but investigations led to the arrest of Macheso.

Meanwhile, police are still looking for the remaining suspects who will be charged with theft by servant contrary to section 286(1) of the Penal Code.

Macheso hails from Gunda village, Traditional Authority (TA) Thilamanja in Mulanje district.

In a related development,

police have arrested 32 suspects during a sweeping exercise in the city.

Confirming the development, Blantyre police deputy spokesperson Andrew Mayawo said the exercise was carried on June 14 at Ndirande policing area.

Mayawo added that among the suspects, one, Christopher Muhiwa, 29, was found with Indian hemp while three; Chipiliro Muchawe, Lloyd Simion and Wilson Misinje were arrested for selling liquor without licence.

The other 28 suspects were arrested for walking at night within Ndirande Township.
