The Immigration Department has expressed concern over the increase in number of Malawians who are being deported from neighbouring countries.

The department’s deputy public relations officer, Wellington Chiponde said many Malawians are being deported because they go to other countries using fake travel documents or stay in the host countries without proper documents.
“Yes, there is still high number of people who are being sent back from some neighbouring countries. Every country has got its laws on who should stay in their country,” he said.
Chiponde added that the situation is an insult to the department since the development suggests that the department is not working for the benefit of all Malawians. He encouraged Malawians to follow procedures before leaving the country.
“So, we are urging all Malawians to make sure they have proper travel documents and whenever they want to get out of the country they should follow laws as provided by us,” he said.
Chiponde also refuted accusations that the department fuels the malpractice by taking long to process passports.
According to Chiponde, nowadays people are getting their passports a few days after submitting their applications.
The publicist added by urging Malawians to avoid assisting foreigners who want to get Malawi’s travel documents.
He warned all would be offenders that they will be arrested and punished in accordance with the country’s laws
