Malawi’s donors have expressed concern over poverty levels in the country despite pumping in $1 billion annually for developmental works.

Speaking to members of the press on Wednesday after having a closed meeting with minister of finance Goodall Gondwe, Germany Ambassador Peter Woeste said it worrisome that donor aid is yielding nothing in the country.

Peter Woetse : Malawi’s economy keeps tumbling.

“I have observed that we did not really move for the past five years, there are different reasons despite donors coming together and investing in Malawi,” said Woeste.

Woeste called for need to change policy framework for Malawi arguing that it is fuelling poverty for citizens in the country.

However, Gondwe said Malawi needs more support from donors for the country to develop.

“If we had the opportunity of having more support we will welcome that development,” said Gondwe.

Donors pulled out direct support to the national budget following massive plunder of taxpayers’ money at capital hill in Lilongwe.

The development witnessed donors coming to help the country directly on sectors of concern.
