Suspected thief beaten to death in Kasungu

An angry mob in Kasungu district killed a man after he was found stealing from a resident in the district.

Police Public Relations Officer for Kasungu Police Edna Mzingwitsa said the incident happened on Thursday.

PoliceAccording to Mzingwitsa, the 37 year-old man was beaten up by an angry mob after he was caught red handed stealing from one of the residents in Chipozinkhono village in Kasungu.

The villagers initially agreed to take the suspect to police but on the way some of the villagers began assaulting him.

“The angry mob beat him severely and he died on the spot. They later dumped him at a certain bush,” she said.

Mzingwitsa said that police officers together with medical officers went to the bush and a post-mortem indicated that the suspect died due to severe loss of blood.

Meanwhile police investigations on the issue are still underway to find the people who were involved in the murder.

The deceased hailed from Kasiyamu village under Traditional Authority Santhe in Kasungu district.
