Flames have their Cosafa tourney hopes boosted.

Flames sponsors Carlsberg Malawi Limited has released K50 million for the team’s Cosafa Castle Senior Challenge Cup slated for next month in Namibia.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony at Mpira Village in Chiwembe on Tuesday morning, the company’s Senior Brands Manager Twikale Chirwa said they have financially continued supporting the team despite registering poor results.

“We are humbly asking the team to restore national pride. We have been sponsoring the team despite registering poor results but by the end of the day, Malawians will judge you,” said Chirwa.

On his part, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President Walter Nyamilandu hailed Carlsberg for the gesture but pleaded with Flames players to die for the nation against Zimbabwe and Swaziland in the remaining Group L 2017 Afcon qualification matches.

“We were stranded because we had nothing in our pockets for the tournament but Carlsberg has rescued us once again. We are grateful for this gesture.” “To the boys, we can turn things around. Zimbabwe and Swaziland are just like us. Lets go there and die for the nation. Lets also do it for Carlsberg Company, good results is the only way to pay them back for this gesture, lets turn tables around,” he said.

Nyamilandu then confirmed that the team will proceed straight to Namibia for the tourney once they play their match against Zimbabwe on Sunday in Harare.

“We are trying to arrange a friendly game for the team before proceeding to Namibia but if we fail to secure the match, the team will proceed to Windhoek for the tournament,” he concluded.

The Flames are yet to register a win in the Afcon qualifier. If they are to keep their dreams of making it to Gabon alive, they must beat Zimbabwe at all cost. Currently, Malawi are bottom of the standings with two points from three games.

The Flames will depart for Zimbabwe on Friday.

You have already said that…carlsberg, the flames sponsers…..and then you say “rescues the flames??” To me this doesnt make any sense at all…..its not supposed to be a rescue mission…but rather executing one of Carlsberg’s mandates as agreed in the sponsership deal.
