Blue Eagles’ title challenge hopes have suffered a blow after they were beaten 4 nil by Kamuzu Barracks in a game played on Sunday at Civo stadium in Lilongwe.

However, despite their second TNM Super League loss, the Area 30-based cops still top the 16-team domestic top-flight league with 18 points from eight games — two head of Silver Strikers who beat Red Lions 1 nil on Saturday afternoon.

Kamuzu Barracks walked over the leaders.

The match started on an impressive note as both sides were playing football with a purpose as they were all in search for a goal in the early stages of the first half.

But it was Kamuzu Barracks who took the lead after Eagles defender Steve Chagoma put the ball into his own net.

From then on, Kamuzu Barracks grew in confidence and were soon 2-0 up after Manase Chiyesa doubled their lead with a beauty past the Blue Eagles goalminder.

Blue Eagles briefly threatened to pull a goal back before half-time but John Malidadi, Wister Phiri and Victor Nyirenda failed to keep their efforts on target.

After the interval, the Lilongwe based soldiers continued to be the most threatening of the two sides and grabbed their third through their hitman Manase Chiyesa.

Diouf Simaone later shattered hopes of a Blue Eagles comeback when he bundled home the soldiers’ fourth goal.

The soldiers could have extended their lead in the closing stages after a neat exchange of passes in the centre but their strikers lacked the killer punch and the game ended 4 nil in favour of Kamuzu Barracks.

In other Tnm Super League matches played on Sunday, Karonga United held Wizards to a goalless draw.
