It was a frustrating afternoon for Peter Mponda’s boys as they failed to beat Karonga United in the a Super League match played at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Wizards and Karonga United could find no way through as both teams failed to create more chances on the afternoon.

The visitors struggled to get their foot on the ball early, but their well-organized defence kept Wizards frustrated and did not allow them to get a decent effort on goal.

In fact, the first significant shot on goal came in the 11th minute from the visitors who shot narrowly over the crossbar.

Minutes later, Patrick Phiri was released by Isaac Mwale only to see his effort well saved by Chimwemwe Kasambara in goals for the visitors.

Wizards thought they have scored but their goal was ruled for a free kick following a foul on Kasambara. Come second half, it was the same old story as both teams failed to play their normal football, hence creating fewer chances.

Few minutes into the half, Bernard Chimaimba delivered a free-kick into the box which Karonga United headed into the path of Peter Msowoya, but Kasambara was quick to save the situation for the visitors.

At the other end, Karonga United won a free kick metres away from Wizards’s goal area but shot-stopper was good in the air as he controlled the situation for the hosts. Phiri should have opened the scoring for the hosts when he met a low cross from Mwale, but he failed to tap in with the goal at his mercy.

Wizards pressed hard in the final ten minutes, but could not find the winner and had to settle for a point.

Speaking to the press, Mponda admitted that his charges did not play according to instrunctions but remained optimistic on his team’s survival.

His opposite number Kondwani Mwalweni hailed his team for a gallant fight which saw them collecting two points from their two away assignments in their first outing.

The result sees Karonga United climbing up to 14th with 3 points from four games while Wizards are on 12th position with 7 points from Six games.
